The Construction in Coding

Residence Designed by Chih-Hao Kao

Chih-Hao Kao, a renowned designer, has redefined the spatial logic of this residence. Breaking free from conventional design thinking, Kao has embedded a bright feature TV wall to alter the spatial circulation and vision direction. This innovative approach adds a new dimension to the space.

The spatial line composition in this design expresses profound meaning and spatial spirit through different constructing methods and materials. The silk curtains in front of the French window cascade down, forming elegant folds that reflect the owner's graceful personality.

With a total area of 120 square meters, this residence showcases the designer's meticulous attention to detail. The balance between design intention and the owner's essence is carefully considered, resulting in a harmonious and functional living space.

The project, located in Taipei City, Taiwan, was completed in May 2015. Throughout the design process, extensive research was conducted to develop a unique coding wall in the central part of the space. The use of linear elements and dark iron materials creates a 3D frame performance, while light-colored stone elements provide a sense of lightness.

One of the design challenges was the inclined high ceiling, which creates a perspective effect through the refraction of light and shade. This feature adds depth to the entrance area and emphasizes its importance in the overall spatial circulation.

The Construction in Coding is a testament to Chih-Hao Kao's expertise in spatial design. By integrating light and shade, Kao has created a living field that is both impressive and functional.
